from the Editor CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: "THE SPECTRUM" IS COMING - BE A PART OF IT! The Summer 2001 issue of The Bastard Quarterly will be devoted entirely to articles, art, humor and poetry reflecting the spectrum of the adoptee experience. We are seeking submissions for this issue from everyone! We want to hear about your experiences growing up adopted, as an adopted adult in "legitimate" society, about your attitudes towards adoption, adoptive family, birth family, "fitting in," "making good," feeling "chosen," "second-best," or "just like any other person." We want your takes on identity, adoption issues, politics, religion, activism, family, search, reconnection, abortion, bastardy, media and society's portrayals of adoption and adoptees, and whatever else is on your adoptee minds! Submissions may be as short as two sentences ("As a Martian adoptee, I was often ridiculed at my mother's Ladies of the Lilywhite teaparties. Only in becoming a world-class neurosurgeon and tulip hybridizer have I found my true identity and self-worth.") or as long as 500 words. Graphics, poems, polemics, limericks, puzzles, Bastard Moments, search stories, personal opinions, political stances - all are welcome so long as you are an adoptee and the submission is adoption-related. You need not be a member of Bastard Nation to participate. Please include the following with your submission: full name (including pseudonym if you would prefer for publication purposes), your location (city, state/province, country), year of birth, and the sort of adoptee you identify as, e.g. Domestic private or agency adoption (name of agency or attorney if known), Late-Discovery Adoptee, Black Market, International (country of origin, agency/orphanage if known), Transracial, Foster Care, "Special Needs" (genetic, medical or environmental challenges), Adoptee as well as Birthparent or Adoptive/Foster parent. Postal submissions will not be returned unless an appropriately postaged self-addressed stamped envelope is included with the submission. Those whose submissions will appear in The Spectrum issue of The Bastard Quarterly (Summer 2001) will be notified by May 1st. 2001. Please join us!
