National Adoptee Rights Day:
Thursday December 3rd 1998
(This feature first appeared in the Fall 1998 issue of the Bastard Quarterly.)
The new Oregon birth records statute created by
Measure 58 goes into
effect on December 3rd, 1998. Many Oregon adoptees have notified
Bastard Nation of their intention to walk into the Department of
Vital
Statistics that day to legally request a copy of their original
birth
certificates.
Bastard Nation would like to announce a National Adoptee Rights
Day to
commemorate this historic event, and will sponsor a nationwide
Rush
for Our Records to coincide with the enactment of Oregon's
historic
new statute. We would like as many adoptees as possible to walk
into
their local Departments of Vital Statistics, County Clerks or
applicable offices on Thursday, December 3rd, from 12 noon to
1P.M.
and demand a copy of your original birth certificates, just like
the
adoptees of Oregon, Alaska, and Kansas.
Bastard Nation welcomes everyone, both in and out of the adoption
triad, to participate in the National Adoptee Rights Day. If you
would
like to organize or attend a local action please coordinate with
me, Ron
Morgan, BN Events Chair, so we may maximize networking and media
opportunities. I can be contacted at: rhyzome@best.com or (415) 647-2417
